Our Veterinarians

Dr. Nicole Reilly

Veterinarian

Dr. Reilly was born and raised in Wheat Ridge, CO. She grew up with horses, dogs and a stream of furry and feathered, caged critters. Dr. Reilly decided in middle school that she wanted to be a veterinarian, so after her high school graduation (Go Farmers!) she headed north to Colorado State University (Go Rams!). In 2000, she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. She decided that she needed a break after 17 years of school, so she spent a year working in the veterinary field before starting veterinary school in 2001.  Dr. Reilly graduated from Colorado State University in May of 2005.

Dr. Reilly met her amazing husband, Travis, when she was halfway through veterinary school. They married right after graduation and moved to Albuquerque, NM for a change of scenery. There, Dr. Reilly practiced at a small animal hospital for four years. In 2009, they left the Land of Enchantment to come back to this great state. After 18 months of small animal practice in Denver, she found the path that led her to Aurora Hills Animal Hospital in the fall of 2011.

Dr. Reilly is passionate about bonding with her patients and their humans. She loves managing complex patients and watching their quality of life improve. She is a strong advocate for pain management whether that pain is from arthritis, a cut or bruise, or due to invasive surgery. Having shared 14 years with an allergic dog, she has grown to love dermatology and those 'itchy' dogs. Her greatest strength is dentistry and she loves seeing her patients lead fuller lives after having their oral health addressed.  She believes that every animal deserves the best care that she has to offer.

Dr. Reilly is blessed to be married to Travis since 2005.  They have two beautiful, teenage daughters, Mikayla and Quinn. They do have an eyebrow raising number of pets, but if you ask daughter, Quinn, they need more! The dogs are Dobby (mini long hair dachshund) and Pepper (coonhound/dachshund/chihuahua). The cats are Jupiter, Kit Kat, Cherry, and Phoebe. The guinea pigs are Inky and Marshmallow. The rats are Bubbles and Piglet.

Outside of the office, Dr. Reilly can be found spending time with her family, curled up with a good book, whipping up some delectable baked goods, or enjoying our beautiful state while skiing and hiking.

Dr. Kyra Coppinger

Veterinarian

Dr. Kyra Coppinger is originally from Waukesha, Wisconsin. Her love for science and animals began at a young age, as her childhood best friend was her black labrador retriever, Aria.

After high school she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. During that time she traveled to Belize where she assisted in providing veterinary care to the local animals, both large and small. Upon graduating, Dr. Kyra worked at a humane society and developed a love for client education.

Dr. Kyra attended veterinary school in the beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada at the Atlantic Veterinary College amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. She is passionate about animal behavior, dermatology, and preventative care. Dr. Kyra is also a strong advocate for minimizing stress and trying to ensure that every pet's visit is a positive one.

She relocated to Colorado with her partner, Erin, her dog (Jasper) and four cats (Morrigan, Cori, Riley, and Buckley). In her spare time, she enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time with family. Dr. Kyra can't wait to meet you and your four-legged family members!

Why vetmed?
Growing up I was very shy so my earliest and best memories are those involving animals. I think I realized from an early age how important they were and how important it was to protect them. It feels like my life goal to help as much as I possibly can, as I find no greater joy in anything else.

Favorite part of the job?
Favorite part of my job is knowing that I am part of something so good. That I work alongside people who love and care about animals just as much as I do. We are making a difference in each of these animals lives, and that feels great.

Pets?
I knew the instant I saw a Sphynx for the first time that one day I would have my own. Now I have two! Norman (4) and Maverick (4)and they make my life so much better, I am so lucky. Not only that, but our fur-less family has a new member and his name is Sholo! (2) He is a Xoloitzcuintli and all around a pretty goofy dog. Lastly, is our oldest girl is grables our (foster fail) brown tabby (7).

Fun fact?
I am a huge foodie! Food is my second passion. I also never miss an opportunity to try something new. Those around me know if they invite me somewhere, I will ask what the menu looks like (; also. Pizza. I can eat pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Charlotte

Hospital Kitty

This is Charlotte! She is a vivacious senior kitty who came to us in March of 2024. We have ‘employed’ kitties in the past to help with client relations and to provide emotional support to staff and pet owners. Charlotte has ‘chosen’ more a supervisory role. Her favorite place to be is on a shelf or the top of the refrigerator so that she can survey her domain and pass judgement on her minions. She can’t fool us though; she is an absolute sucker for a good belly rub!
