Sedation with Local Anesthesia

If your pet is having a minor surgical or diagnostic procedure performed, we sometimes use sedation with a local anesthetic to help control pain. For example, when we perform minor laceration repair or a biopsy (in which a small portion of tissue is surgically removed so it can be examined), we often start with a sedative that is injected directly into your pet’s vein. A sedative allows your pet to relax for the procedure and most will help control pain. Once your pet is relaxed, local anesthetics are injected into the area of the procedure and cause loss of feeling.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your pet receiving sedation with local anesthesia or about the procedure for which your pet is scheduled.
